Product Manager’s primary focus is to provide application configuration management. In so doing it takes away the manual processes normally associated with deploying new versions of data management projects to their target environments by effectively automating them.
Ordinarily, significant time and effort is invested in attempting to ensure that each release of an in-house developed project is implemented successfully. DevOps type automation has gone a long way to assisting in automating the mechanical process of release. However, in the world of data management, identifying specific changes necessary for a particular release, which does not involve wholesale re-deployment, requires an almost unreasonable amount of manual intervention, documentation and vigilance on the part of the development team.
Product Manager coordinates the activity undertaken by Data Academy and DSF and provides the platform for managing maintenance releases that are:
Fully managed |
Released without the need for historic documentation or manual intervention |
Able to be integrated with a fully automated DevOps environment |
This results in protection against:
Wasted time and effort due to release failure, resulting in significant application downtime |
Loss of historic data due to the need for complete application releases overwriting pre-existing data |
Increased time to market and loss of competitive edge due to the inability to implement CI/CD and DevOps processes |
